Hot on the heels of the success of Sutton Council’s three year behaviour change programme, Smarter Travel Sutton, Networked Neighbourhoods is to start work with the team on their latest behaviour change project.

The London Borough of Sutton’s Smarter Travel Sutton has resulted in a 75% increase in cycling in the borough. Encouraged by this success, Sutton’s Daniel Ratchford has recently launched a new behaviour change project, Smarter Streets.

Supported by partners Keep Britain Tidy, NESTA and the Young Foundation, the new project is seeking to make significant savings on the borough’s street cleaning budget through a range of behaviour change techniques.

Networked Neighbourhoods had a number of discussions with Daniel and the partners last year during which we outlined the potential of online neighbourhood networks to support behaviour change.

An approach has now been agreed and Networked Neighbourhoods will shortly be starting work with the vanguard borough using online neighbourhood networks to support Sutton’s Nudge and Steer approaches as well as seeking to facilitate a social systems change strand.
